- Its National and International Activities
The German Foundry Association
(BDG) represents the shared
interests of the iron, steel, and malleable foundries of Germany on a general, conceptual,
and entrepreneurial basis. It is, in fact, the confederation which represents this branch
of industry.
Organization:
- The Association comprises three functional divisions representing
different materials, i.e. iron, ductile, and steel castings.
- On a regional basis, there are
seven Land Associations.
- BDG
is a member of the Confederation of German Industry (BDI).
Our range of services comprises:
Foreign Trade
Circulation of market information; export support; observation of foreign-trade activities
Business Economics
Adaptation of research findings and practical experience in business economics to the
requirements of the foundry industry; exchange of experience; computation of business
indexes
Energy and Transport
Protection of the foundry industry's interests
Communication and Statistics
Publication of industry-related statistics; monthly surveys of the cyclical situation;
acting as one of the official organs of EBZ, the European Consultation Centre of the
German economy
SME Issues
Focus on economic-policy activities addressing SME and foundry-specific issues
Public Relations
Circulation of information to BDG member companies and the general public; media contacts;
publication of the official newsletter 'BDG Report'
Legislation, Taxation, Insurance
Observation of legislative and juridical activities on the national and international
plane and evaluation of these activities from the foundry industry's viewpoint
Raw Materials
Market observation; data evaluation; and circulation of information
National Economy
Observation and analysis of global economic developments as well as of cyclical
developments in customer industries
Environmental Protection
Zoning and planning legislation; representation of the foundry industry's interests in the
field of environmental protection and zoning/planning legislation vis-à-vis political,
legislative and administrative authorities
ZGV - Castings Application Centre:
Joint advertising campaigns to promote the use of castings, product,
process, and
application information for users, publication and editing of a quarterly journal entitled
'konstruieren + gießen' (design + casting), with each issue either focussing on a single
material or discussing several subjects, contacts with the technical press, source
information, fairs and exhibitions.

Working Group of Supplier Industries
Besides the BDG, members include
- The EBM Industry Federation
- The Federation of Plastic Fabricators
- The German Rubber Industry Federation
- The Federation of Steel-forming Industries
- The Metal Industry Federation
The Group's mission is to protect the interests of suppliers and
point out the problems confronting the supplier industries. Public relations are handled
by the BDG.
